This article describes all the topics or common places and elements of negotiation
showing clearly the links of the concept in past times with change and intercourse ideas,
and making visible its relationship with language and common understanding. Professor
Perez Herranz rescues the fundamental strength of negotiation as a meditation
phenomenon, linked with communication and human understanding, to assert its value in
present times in which the achievement of mutual respect, of a dignified life in a
globalized society is essential as it is to understand the variety of existence basis which
Philosophy always aimed at.

criterios para su negociación [The conflicts between ethics, morals, and politics:
the criteria for their negotiation].CIC, 8,39-60.
This article studies the world of human motivation from ethic, moral, or political sources,
in all their dependence relationship possibilities, giving examples of situations and
actions from these different origins. Analyzing the important distinction between moral
and ethics, the author uses also the Theory of Anthropological Space, and his categories
distinctions, to have an essential tool to interpret political, social, group, or individual
phenomena. With a rich range of cases and this theoretical basis he clears the difficult
relationship between moral, rights, politics, and ethics, and shows the function of all
types of religious or social facts.
- Valbuena de la Fuente, F. (2003). Pragmática de la negociación
[Pragmatic negotiations].CIC, 8,71-116.
This large work revises all the phrases and processes that appear in negotiation. It shows
the information and communication technical power, from previous data search to
definition of relationship or proficiency in question making, activities between a broad
range fundamental to negotiation. It is essential, the knowledge of human psychology,
the human causality models or, the study of ambiences or human transactions and not
simply the strategies typical of more active phrases, in which direct part-taking or
pressing maneuvers are required. The author uses all his theoretical weapons to complete
a vision of negotiation which leaves not an aspect without reflection, giving important
information from psychology to philosophy or information theory, and a long list of other
areas of study.

el valor estratégico de los medios de comunicación en la
negociación [Covering media events: the brave strategies of the media in
communication in negotiation].CIC, 8,117-131.
This paper focuses on the important role played by communication and information in
negotiation processes, especially in an international frame of reference, in which today's
needs and circumstances demand an alternative model of conflict resolution. The author
gives us a wide description of the influence of professional perspectives of new
production in negotiation processes, whose complexity of structure and strategies are
badly treated by news media. Peace is not a newsworthiness criteria and the cover of
negotiation processes is not privileged by information and communication organizations.
- Fisher, G. (2003). Negociación internacional. La perspectiva transcultural
[International negotiation. The cross-cultural perspective].CIC, 8,133-177.
The author of this paper analyzes great negotiation processes such as cross-cultural and
international ones, using his broad experience and knowledge in the field. His expertise
goes from Social psychology which studies perception, processing information and
reaction to it, to Cultural and Social Science in which the formation of conventions and
norms and the world of semantic nuances are important factors to be considered.

This issue addresses theme of the communication of humor in four parts: classical theories of humor, in which many well known essays are reprinted; humor in the cinema; humor in the humanities; and general articles on humor.
- Valbuena, Felicísimo. Presentacíon [General introduction], pp. 9-27. After a general introduction to the issue, Valbuena offers brief looks at each of the essays in the volume.
Theories of humor
- Anonymous. Tractatus Coislinianus (commentary by Lane Cooper, translated by Eva Aladro), pp. 31-37. This 10th century manuscript provides an early theory of humor, perhaps drawing on the lost books of Aristotle's Poetics.
- Lauand, L. Jean. La tontería y los tontos en el Análisis de Tomás de Aquino, pp. 37-46. This essay considers the various places in his writings in which Thomas Aquinas comments on the "fool" or "the foolish" in Scriptures; it offers a detailed analysis of Thomas's understanding of the concept.
- Valbuena de la Fuente, Felicísimo. El humor en Thomas Hobbes, pp. 47-51. This short essay introduces the reader to Hobbes' well-known theory of humor in which humor rests on a "superiority of feelings" and aggressiveness.
- Richter, Jean Paul. Del humorismo, pp. 53-68. This essay presents, in summary fashion, Richter's much more complex theory of humor, including how humor works through a transposition of ends, the contrast of finite and infinite for the subject, and the subsequent contrast of subjectivity and objectivity.
- Hazlitt, William. Sobre el ingenio y el humor (Conferencias sobre los escritores cómicos ingleses, 1818), pp. 69-94. This translation of Hazlitt includes his "epistemology of humor" and explication of the elements of humor: "the suspension of belief, the play with imagination, the intercourse between nature and accident," etc.
- Pirandello, Luigi. Esencia, caracteres y materia del humorismo, pp. 95-130. This is a translation of Pirandello's classic text on humor in literature and life; he argues for its dependence on emotion and reflection.
- Baroja, Pío. Humorismo y retórica, pp. 131-138. This 20th-century Spanish writer develops a theory of humor and rhetoric as opposed writing systems. "He uses...the conceptual features of humor and satirical prose to define clearly both mechanisms of thought and human communication."
- Jardiel Poncela, Enrique. Ideas sobre el humorismo, pp. 139-157. Jardiel Poncela, an early 20th-century Spanish humorist, reflects on comedy and its accomplishment in theatre.
- Mihura, Miguel. Sobre "Maribel y la extraña familia," pp. 159-167. "Mihura, a highly talented Spanish writer, remembers here the details of his literary creation of the comedy Maribel and the strange family. He shows how he caught comic aspects of reality..."
- Casares, Julio. Concepto del humor, pp. 169-187. "The Spanish scholar Julio Casares introduces humor and reviews its conceptual tradition, remembering some of the most important theories and contributing with Spanish definitions and comments from various sources."
- Koestler, Arthur. El acto de la creación. (Libro primero: el bufón). (Translated by Eva Aladro), pp. 189-220. In this section, Koestler (1905-1983) sets forth his theory of creativity; within it, he notes the roots of humor.
- Redfern, Walter. Juegos de palabras sobre juegos de palabras. (Translated by Eva Aladro), pp. 221-252. Refern's essay on puns, in advertising and in art, argues that the appearance of puns in mass communication is "probably the best symbol of the ambivalent position of the artist in contemporary society."

- Mast, Gerald. Preston Sturges, pp. 255-263. Mast's review of the films of Preston Sturges highlights the comedies and their narrative and social conventions.
Humor in the humanities
- Casares, Julio. Ls descripción literaria y el inventario notarial. La falta de inventiva, pp. 267-274. The Spanish literary critic Julio Casares presents a humorous description of hyperbole in the works of "Azorín."
- Berne, Eric. Más allá de una teoría del impacto de la interacción interpersonal en la cooperación no verbal, pp. 275-292. In this, his last public discourse, Berne offers a humorous critique of the typical errors and problems of the academic world of psychotherapy.
- Fisher, David Hackett. Las falacias del historiador, pp. 293-315. Fisher, a professor of history at Brandeis University, provides a humorous look a the typical errors and fallacies of the historian.
